HPEC 2021: Vision Towards Wellness
November 7, 2020
Re: ATA - HPEC Annual Conference
Dear HPEC Nation,
On October 22, 2020 the Provincial Executive Council (PEC) of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) passed a motion that states that all 2021 Specialist Council Conferences will occur only in digital format. Health and Physical Education Council (HPEC) conferences are inherently about connections as well as working and learning together in person. Due to the restrictions on in-person gatherings and for the health and safety of everyone, HPEC has elected to cancel the HPEC 2021 conference.
We will continue to support our HPEC members in their life long career professional development in the following ways:
- The HPEC Communication Committee will continue to send out regular emails to our members with all HPEC related information such as links to our HPEC Blog, information about HPEC and Ever Active Schools (EAS) webinars and other learning opportunities. We will be publishing the HPEC ESprinter and The HPEC Runner in 2021.
- The HPEC Membership Engagement and Services Committee will be providing sessions during the virtual Teachers Conventions, the virtual Beginning Teachers
Conference, and the virtual Pre-Service Teacher Carousels.
- The HPEC Leadership and Curriculum Committee will continue to work with our liaison groups (ASAA, ATEPHE, AHS, AlbertaEducation, PHE Canada, and Ever Active Schools) to provide the most recent and research based best practices to our HPEC membership.
The annual AGM will take place on Friday, May 7th, 2021 in a virtual setting. We welcome all HPEC members to attend.
Furthermore, there will be no HPEC grants nor awards given in 2021. We will reopen the application process once we are able to once again host an HPEC Conference. Until then, we will employ creative and innovative ways to continue to engage our membership. While this was a very difficult decision to make, we feel that it was in the best interest of teacher health and wellness.
Conference 2020 Updates:
Conference 2020 registrations will be refunded to all those who were registered for the HPEC Conference in Lethbridge and no further action is required.
If you received an award or a grant for 2020 registration, you will be contacted shortly by an HPEC executive member.
We would like to thank our membership, delegates, partners, sponsors and suppliers for their patience while we worked through this unprecedented and complex situation which has taken some time to navigate.
We would also like to thank our dedicated HPEC Executives and our Conference Team who have been working hard to find solutions during these difficult times.
Lastly, if you are interested in becoming a member of the HPEC Executive, we currently have vacant positions. We also encourage YOU to share your COVID teaching successes with us and we will highlight you in the HPEC emails and on the blog. Please visit hpec.ab.ca for more information. If you have any further questions or concerns please reach out to president@hpec.ab.ca.
With gratitude,
Jodi Harding Kuriger
